Buy a new a hanger

A clothes hanger, coat hanger, or coathanger is a hanging device that resembles:

Human shoulders are designed to prevent wrinkles while hanging a coat, jacket, sweater, shirt, blouse, or dress, with a lower bar for hanging trousers or skirts.

Clamp for hanging pants, skirts, or kilts. Both types can be used in the same hanger.

The clothing hanger was originally designed to provide people with easy access to their clothing as well as to designate a location in their home to store their clothing. It was also used to keep clothing wrinkle-free and dry.

Clothes hangers are classified into three types. The first is the wire hanger, which consists of a simple loop of wire, usually steel, in the shape of a flattened triangle that continues into a hook at the top. The wooden hanger, on the other hand, consists of a flat piece of wood cut into a boomerang-like shape with the edges sanded down to prevent damage to the clothing, and a hook, usually of metal, protruding from the point. Some wooden hangers have a flattened triangle formed by a rounded bar from tip to tip. This bar is intended for hanging the jacket's trousers.

The third and most common type is plastic coat hangers, which are designed to resemble either a wire or a wooden hanger. Smaller plastic coat hangers are also available to accommodate the shapes of children's clothes.

Some hangers have bottom clips for suspending skirts. Dedicated skirt and pants hangers may not use the triangular shape at all, instead relying on a rod with clips. Other hangers have small rings coming from the top two bars to hang tank-top straps on. Many pairs of trousers can be stored on specialized pant hanger racks. Foldable clothes hangers are an old, but potentially useful, variation on traditional clothes hangers that are designed to be inserted through the collar area for ease of use and to reduce stretching. They have been patented over 200 times in the United States alone, including U.S. Patent 0586456, which was awarded to George E. Hideout in 1897.
